Over 15 years old and still going I can't believe the bad reviews here. However, it appears they are highly inaccurate. There are several with the 28.5 reading (that's the sticker on the LCD) and the others that say it keeps reading 0.00. The manual states that if you do a quick on and off the stem it calibrates the device. The 0.00 tells you its ready and calibrated. Then repeat and hold on the stem firmly for about a second or two making sure you don't leak any air. It will consistently give you accurate readings. We bought two of this very model over 15 years ago. We have one for each car and we store them in the glove compartment. In this Texas heat they are still going strong. You can't go wrong with this model.
Good tire gauge I have used the other model, MS-4000B, for about 3 or 4 years, but it started leaking recently and will not give an accurate reading, so I ordered this one from Amazon. After using this one on two vehicles, and getting the same reading with another dial style gauge (bought in Walmart just for calibration purpose), I'm satisfied with this purchase. There was no leak whatsoever, and the reading is accurate. From my own experience, when tire gauge starts leaking air, it's time to replace it.
No ayr leak Not sure why other people were having problems with air leak during use. I measured all 4 tires (the tire stems were at different positions). None had any leak issue. Each measurement took just a few seconds. I think if you put your thumb on the top to push the on the gauge, it seals better. The package has a picture to show where to push on the gauge to make a good stem contact. Pressure display is a nice red LED. Bright in the dark. Easy to read in sun light. This unit uses 3 LR44 battery. The battery door is on the handle, secure by a small screw. Don't know how accurate this gauge is because I don't have a reference guage. Note: There is a small piece of rubber inside. I use a toothpick to push on it and it is soft and yields a little. Maybe they have improved the design and the rubber helps making a good seal.
Update: 5/1/07. I have been using this tire gauge for over 4 months on two cars. Very happy. The trick to use this gauge is to put your thumb on the flat surface and push straight in. Wait a few seconds then remove and read. Batteries are still working fine.
Accutire Digital Tire Gauge I've owned one of these for a couple of years. Because I am middle aged and my eyesight isn't what it used to be, the cheap analog tire gauges are difficult, if not nearly impossible for me to read. This is not the case with the Accutire. The bright LED readout is large and easy to read. I would highly recommend it for the visually compromised.
over 10 years old and still accurate I've probably had this even longer (3+ cars worth)but want to be conservative. I live near the beach and 3-4 times a week I'm deflating all 4 tires down to 15 pounds spring through fall, and later in the day re inflating them all. Thus I need a highly accurate, reliable gauge. This is the best one I've ever had. The battery still seems strong; readings are instant and easy to read. Only complaint is I wish it had a nub to push on the valve stem with to release a small burst of air, but I use dedicated deflaters so it's not a real issue for me.
Excellent Tools This is by far the best tire gauge I've ever had. It lights brightly, easy to see even in sun and always visible at night. Accuracy is high, construction quality is excellent. Highly recommended
this gauge is perfect Please ignore the other two users that gave this gauge only one star because it only read 28.5 psi. I find it amusing, but sad, that they didn't realize that there was a protective sticker on the screen that read 28.5. If you peel off that protective sticker, then you get a nice, bright red backlit number displaying your true tire pressure. This gauge works great! The display is amazingly easy to read, and it is also simple to get a good reading.
Prior to owning this Accutire model, I had a 7 year old Accutire digital gauge that finally broke. WIth that old model, it was much harder to get a reading without air leaking out. With this new model, if you just push the gauge straight into the valve stem, you easily get a solid reading without leaking air. The old model's display wasn't backlit either, and I was truly impressed with the large, bright numbers on this new model. I'd highly recommend getting this gauge, as it has all the functionality you need, at a very reasonable price. I like having accuracy to 0.5 psi, and I never use non-digital gauges unless I have no other choice. I also tested this gauge with back-to-back measurements, and it was accurate every time. You won't regret this purchase...
Accutire MS-4021B Standard Digital Tire Gauge I bought this Accutire MS-4021B Standard Digital Tire Gauge and another digital tire pressure guage by Instapark and both worked just fine and are much more accurate than a standard pen style pressure guage. If your vehical has a tire pressure monitoring system these digital pressure guages are a must.
Good enough accuracy but impractical grip and battery. The pressure reading is accurate enough for everyday use. It is more precise and easy to read than most analog gauges built-into air compressors. But one must take off the sticker written "28.5" before using it but it seems like some people were unaware of this fact and gave this product and undeserving poor rating. If one just tries to get a good connection between the gauge and the tires air nozzle without air hissing the reading is good enough.
However there are digital tire gauges in the market for cheaper price that functions the same. At this moment Amazon.coms price is $9.99 plus applicable shipping but Ebay has another product for 4.99 shipping included.
The part that I hated the most was the "non-slip" grip. Yes it is rubber and maybe prevention from dropping but if it becomes dirty it is really hard to clean. I cant pour water on it since the batteries are there and wet towels get rubbed on it if I use them to clean this device due to the rubbers friction. The r
Easy to use but not accurate and not precise Puchased on sale at Sears. Very disappointed but didnt save receipt. In taking multiple readings the values ranged from 28 to 36 psi on a single tire. No trend. Just jumps around. My old $4 Harbor Tool dial gauge and $7 Wal Mart gauge gave accuracy and precison reading +/- 0.5 psi when eying between lines.
